Information and Reminders

Reading challenge – please sign and date your child’s learning journal 3 times in one week after you have heard them read, as then they will receive a Dojo point. If children are not reading regularly at home then they will attend lunchtime reading club on a Friday. Thank you in advance for your support!

Please make sure your child wears the correct Winter uniform to school and they bring a coat to wear at break times as the weather has turned colder.

PE changes reminder. Block 4 will begin next week (5th December – 20th January) 3A will have swimming, 3B will have gymnastics and 3C will have net/wall. Please remember your child’s kit so they can participate. Football students need to bring in trainers as well just in case there is the need to go inside.

Homework is sent on Wednesdays and must be returned on Mondays to be marked. Please make sure you encourage your child to complete it on their own and inform us if they found the activity challenging so we can further support them in school. They can sign up for homework club on Thursdays and Fridays which is first come, first served. Weekly website links will be sent on Fridays.

Don’t forget to check Class Dojo to see how many House Points your child has been collecting and to see posts of what is happening in your child’s class.

3C – Sharly Calton for showing great resilience when using the past tense in English!

English

Next week in English we will be reading, writing and performing poetry. The children will hear some poems being performed, thinking about what makes a good performance, before practicing poems in preparation to share them with the class. We will also read some poems with a winter theme, looking at the form. We will study haikus and some rhyming poems, outlining their features and then use these to write our own versions.

Maths

Our focus in Maths will move on to learning about angles. The children will learn about the properties of a right angle and how to identify them, as well as investigating angles greater than or less than a right angle.  They will also learn how to describe a 2D shape according to its properties, using mathematical language. Finally, the children will be asked to apply their knowledge of angles in a practical way by programming instructions into a sprite or Bee-bot to draw specified 2D shapes.

Topic

As a culmination of all our hard work in Topic this term, Year 3 will be holding an exhibition of 'Inventions that Changed the World' next Tuesday 6thDecember. You are all warmly invited! The opening times are as follows in the new location of the Dance Studio (opposite the Year 3 classrooms):
