Weekly Update from Mrs Rebecca Carroll 06/04/2018 Phase 3 invited parents, staff and pupils to their exhibition on the second floor this morning. It was a wonderful showcase of all the learning that has been taking place over the last term. There were Musical performances, presentations, puppet shows, art activities to name but a few. Our knowledge of rivers was put to the test with a ‘Rivers loop game’, meanwhile in 5B some students had gone missing and been replaced by Mr. and Mrs. Twit from the Roald Dahls classic, the Twits.

A Great Exhibition

Phase 3 invited parents, staff and pupils to their exhibition on the second floor this morning.
Ms. Hill was working on a Northern Lights inspired masterpiece coached by some children in 6I and it was wonderful to listen to young leaders demonstrate their public speaking skills. The corridor was jam-packed with parents and families of our Y5 and 6 students along with students from other year groups and teachers across the school. The spectacular also included work from our EAL students and showcased what the children have been learning in Vietnamese lessons. These are proud moments for our students as they share their learning and with great parent support, another wonderful event for the BIS community.

Story telling in 1I and 6I

1I expertly told us the story of ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’ this morning in our EYC assembly; they spoke clearly and with confidence and put on a wonderful display. They demonstrated their scientific knowledge about plants; teaching us what they need to survive and naming the different parts of the plant. Linking learning across subjects deepens children understanding and this was clear to see this morning.

This was echoed in our afternoon assembly where 6I showed us what accomplished young students they are; speaking with confidence and ease about their learning, it was clear to see the depth of learning and connections they had made throughout their recent topic. This importance of attitudes to learning was also highlighted as the students talked about the collaboration, communication and, at times, the compromise they had to make during the puppet show task. Well done!

Nguyen Dinh Chieu

Our final set of visitors from Nguyen Dinh Chieu came to 2B today. Year 2 have been working with students from our community part over the last few weeks and children from both schools have really enjoyed themselves. It has been wonderful to see how our students worked with children from the Blind School and asked thoughtful questions in preparation for their visit. The children have been taking part in musical activities and exploring sensory activities. The money raised from the ticket sales for Beauty and the Beast bought musical instruments for the students of Nguyen Dinh Chieu which we presented to them this morning.  Well done Year 2, it was heart-warming to see the care and kindness you showed to our visitors and how you helped them navigate our school.

I hope to see many of you at our Spring Brunch on Sunday. Wishing you all a lovely weekend,

Ms Rebecca Carroll, Head of Primary
