Mr Nicholas West Weekly Update 8/1/2016

Welcome back to everyone after the holiday break and a very special hello to the new families who have joined us at the start of Term 2.

This term is always an extremely focused time for learning but with a huge number of extra activities the children can enjoy.

Of course, in a few weeks’ time, we will be celebrating the Tet festivities together on Sunday 24th January, a most important time of year in Vietnam. The preparations have already started for this. Again, this year, the children will be taking part in a Tet Art House Day to create decorations for the stalls and some Tet trees. This happens next Tuesday so please do remember to send your child to school wearing their House t-shirt – I wonder which House tree will be filled with the most colour this year?

Term 2 is also the term when children in Years 4, 5 and 6 have their residential trips away from school and home. These are a fantastic opportunity to enhance the children’s learning but more importantly an opportunity for them to develop as individuals. Many will show leadership qualities as they support their friends and try out new things for the first time. Being away from home is also often a big step in a child’s development and learning how to deal with these new situations are key life skills. We will send more information about these and hold parent information sessions after the Tet holiday so do look out for this.

Every class will be taking a day trip this term to enhance their learning, usually linked to the International Primary Curriculum (IPC) topic they are studying. There are some creative activities being planned and new places to visit.

Next week sees the commencement of the ten week block of ECAs and it is wonderful to be welcoming some talented Vietnamese football coaches and some masters of their trade with a Yo-Yo to school to lead new clubs. We do hope the children enjoy the choices they make and we look forward to a wonderful term together.
