Hoan Kiem was full of families celebrating the upcoming Moon Festival last weekend and those walking the streets had more than tripled in size. Even with these extra street closures, walking was still a challenge with the large crowds that had gathered. This shows the strength of feeling about this important time of year and how the festival is continually celebrated each year all over Vietnam, and other parts of the world where this community extends. The more your children become global citizens, the more the world will hear about the strong culture and heritage that exists amongst Vietnamese people. This is a culture of strong family values and heritage that we wholeheartedly support. Our overseas staff are privileged to live and learn in Vietnam and be part of your extended family. They have a strong culture themselves but we embrace yours and ensure your children understand this whilst learning about the wider world. Your children will always be Vietnamese, wherever they are in the world, so the values they gain from home and school will ensure they are successful in the future, wherever they learn. They will then share these new skills and understanding upon their return to Vietnam. We have developed a saying for the children that acknowledge them as being Vietnamese anywhere in the world but by recognising other cultures and working together as one, they can achieve great things together. It says, ‘I am me and you are you; success in the world when we are two’, our definition of International Mindedness.
We thoroughly enjoyed welcoming you to school this week for our EYFS and Primary Moon Festival Celebrations and hope you had a great occasion with us. Both halls looked so colourful and we were all entertained by traditional song, dance, and in Primary, a traditionally noisy Lion Dance. Thank you to all those who attended and we look forward to welcoming you at upcoming events and workshops. Please do keep checking e-mails, letters and the new website for more information.
We had two visitors this week from two very successful international schools in the region. They were both representatives of the group called FOBISIA, which Mr. Sayer has made reference to in his article. We always feel proud as a school when other professionals can’t believe the quality of the school in such a short time. I am sure that as you have walked around and attended events, you too will have seen its vibrancy. They both commented on how ‘warm’ the school feels yet they see the systems in place and know it is a school with strong foundations where your children are making incredible process. The staff too live by the international mindedness definition, ‘I am me and you are you; success in the world when we are two.’ They chose to teach in this school, they chose to live in Vietnam, they believe in what your children are learning at BVIS Hanoi and the values it stands for: together we are proving very successful.
