Secondary Weekly Update 15/12/2017 from Mr. Nick Lee Well, we have finally come to the end of our first term of the year. What a term it has been, and what a final week as well! On Monday, we had our annual sports day; the entire school at the My Dinh stadium track for a day of track and field athletics, plus some good old fashioned tug of war! It was a wonderful occasion with some fine performances from all who took part in the cold, damp conditions.

Well, we have finally come to the end of our first term of the year.

I would like to mention two students from the school, who shone. Catherine from Year 10 won 5 events, and Shun from Year 11, 3 events. The whole day was so well organised, and my great thanks go to Ms Smith and the team of PE staff for putting on such a joyous day of sporting endeavours.

On Wednesday, we had our annual Christmas Market. As ever, this was completely student-led with all showing brilliant entrepreneurial spirit. There was an incredible range of food on offer, including Jonny’s famous hamburgers. Some Year 9 girls made a range of slime products, with a Christmas theme, and raised 6 million VND! Mr Leak and a number of staff sacrificed themselves for the ‘throwing the water balloons at teachers’ stall and Maika, in Year 7 sold her own paintings. The pIctures she painted were so good that there was a raffle in which people bought tickets to see who would take home the final piece. She raised 5 million VND! All in all, the Christmas Market raised 68 million VND, smashing all previous records. Thank you to all the parents that turned up to support this amazing event, and to the House leaders for helping to organise the students efforts.

So, as I write this to you, I am reflecting on the term we have had. This has been helped by a lovely celebration assembly in which we were able to award certificates and celebrate the many talents of our incredible students.

We celebrated the recent Computer Science 'Hackathon', the UKMT Maths challenge, our best translators, the creative writing competition, the students who read the most words in our accelerated reader programme. We showed the winning entries from the student and staff photographer of the term competition, the science debating team, the students who did so much work for the My Dinh orphanage, and once again celebrated the World Scholar's Cup Champions. On top of all that, we heard the incredible music of My Anh and her festive band.

A lovely way to finish the term and look forward to the Christmas holidays.

Thank you for all of your support this term, and I wish you and all of your family a lovely Christmas break. I look forward to seeing you all again in 2018.
