Early Years 1 Teacher

Originally form County Kerry in Ireland I moved to Doha in September 2012 with my husband and two children.  Faye, our daughter, is fifteen and is in Yr 10 in Doha College. Our son Charlie is twelve and he made the big leap from primary to secondary school in September! Although it took us some time to adjust to Doha life, we all feel very much at home here and we are delighted to have the experience of expat life.

I have been teaching for twenty five years and could not imagine myself doing anything else! I have a BA (hons) in French and German and, after training as an EAL teacher; I began my teaching career in Montpellier in the South of France many years ago! Since then I have taught in New York, Spain and Ireland and have taught all different age groups and stages throughout my career.

I worked in Doha College Al Waab for eighteen months, before joining Compass as a supply teacher last November.

In March, I was offered the opportunity to teach Year 2 in Gharaffa and loved working with and teaching my very motivated and funny pupils! I am really looking forward to the year ahead with my EY1 children and hope they will enjoy their first year in Compass.

As an educator, I always strive to encourage my pupils to feel confident in their own beliefs and convictions, to have imagination and creativity that knows no bounds. I want every child to enjoy learning from an early age and I really hope they take this enjoyment through to adulthood.

My favourite quote is a well-known Irish proverb;”Níl aon tinteán mar do thinteán féin”, which simply translates as “there is no place like home”.

When I am not working, I really enjoy socializing and spending time with my family and friends. A beach or pool day with my family and friends, followed by a good meal in a nice restaurant, is my idea of a perfect weekend! As a family, we really love travelling and take every opportunity we can to explore this part of the world!
