The College and University Guidance Department is adjacent to the Sixth Form study room with an area dedicated to paper based prospectuses, information on university related issues and access to the University Guidance Team. The BIS University Guidance Team provides students and parents with all the information, support and guidance they need to make the right decision about life after BIS.
It is essential that students have the chance to explore and recognise their skills and potential and to understand what makes them feel fulfilled. The University Guidance Team aims to help students make their subject, university and possible career choices as well informed as possible. This is done in a number of ways:
1. One-to-one Guidance
Students will receive one-to-one guidance to help them decide which course and university fits their profile. Parents can make appointments as well to discuss any related issued such as university choices and related processes, IB choices and implications of subject change.
2. University Application Support
We will work together with each student and help them navigate their way through the different university application systems, guidance on their personal statement or college essays, mock interviews and practical support on results day.
3. Additional Support
Each year, over 200 university representatives from Australia, Canada, Hong Kong, Korea, UK and the USA visit our campus to meet our students. We also offer SAT prep classes and practice testing for entry to USA universities.
In Year 12 we hold University Information Evenings which kick-start the university research process. Through our ILS programme, students are provided with opportunities to explore a variety of academic and career pathways and undertake a series of psychometric and aptitude assessments to help clarify their interests, strengths and areas for development.
We have a vast amount of information and resources available to help students plan their next steps.
