Year 1 News

Nearly a month has gone by since we welcomed our new Year 1 students to Key Stage 1. The transition has been quite smooth and already Year 1s carry a certain confidence with them as leaders of our Early Years Centre.

In Year 1 there are new friends, new opportunities and new expectations. Our Year 1s have begun to have weekly whole year group assemblies, where we share concerns and celebrate achievements. Later this year, our Year 1 students will also join houses to encourage teamwork across classes and to prepare them to join the bigger houses next year at the ‘big’ school.

Establishing links between members of Key Stage 1 will be a big focus this year at school, and we hope to get to know our friends in Year 2 much better.

In the meantime, September has brought many fun learning opportunities at Dąbrowskiego. Our first topic of the school year was ‘Ourselves’. Students have enjoyed getting to know each other better and learning about what we have in common and what makes us special. We have been working with this topic through many subject areas to make the material more meaningful and fun. Students particularly enjoyed working on interactive and creative tasks in Computing and Art.

Now that autumn has officially arrived, students will be learning about the changes they see around them and use questioning and predictions to understand the weather they observe at this time of year. In our upcoming topic on Toys, students will have the opportunity again to engage in meaningful projects and activities that bring together all subject areas of the curriculum.

Year 1 is a busy and exciting place. We look forward to continuing to share even more of our learning with you soon.

Best wishes,

Angela Childs
