Congratulations to BSB 2018 Graduate SuhYeon (Sunny) Hwang for achieving full marks - the maximum score of 45 out of 45 on her IB Diploma examinations! This is an incredible achievement as only 1 in 1000 students worldwide received full marks this year on the IBDP.

Sunny will be studying Bachelor of Medicine at Yonsei  University, one of the top medical school in Korea.

Sunny also achieved amazing IGCSE grades of 8A* and 4A in 2016.  She has been studying at BSB for 6 years since Year 8 and has participated in many school events.  She was 1 of our 4 Student Ambassadors who represented BSB Shunyi at the inaugural UN Global Goals Student Summit 2017 in New York and won the most honourable delegate in the Security Council.

Well done Sunny, you have made us all very proud!

Sunny shares her excitement below and tells us about her success at The British School of Beijing, Shunyi.

Receiving a perfect score of 45 out of 45

Growing up, I was never under the pressure to study certain subjects or excel in studying. My parents always told me to do whatever I wanted and gradually discover my own interests. Whilst taking part in Model United Nations for many years I had the opportunity to meet many people such as the United Nations Senior Officer, the leader of the World Health Organization Liberia, and humanitarian aid workers. Listening to their lectures really inspired me and I decided that I want to become a surgeon who also does charitable work. Having a clear goal served as my biggest motivation to study and as a result I found IB surprisingly enjoyable.

I think it is very special how BSB students learn from each other and become each other’s strongest moral supporters.

Since BSB is a close community, students become friends with not only people of the same age but also students from different year groups. In Year 8, 9, and 10, I met many seniors in the Model United Nations club. They taught me everything from debating to critical thinking and also gave me valuable advice. When I organized our school’s second MUN conference in December 2017, one of BSB’s former graduates actually returned to support our team and see how everything was going. In Year 11, 12, and 13, I took on the senior role and taught younger students what I learned from the previous years.

Best memories from my time at BSB

My first best memory is definitely organizing the first and second BSB Model United Nations (MUN) Conference. When I first joined the MUN club in Year 8, I was one of the four members present. Expanding MUN into the biggest academic ASA and organizing our own BSB MUN conference (participated by 8 international schools) was extremely rewarding.  My second best memory is making a haunted house in our school. Many students from my year participated and we had so much fun scaring students while dressed up like zombies.
