CISAK invites Laura Wrede and Salim Al Humaidi to speak to students

The tradition of falconry in Qatar goes back to ancient times, with deep roots in the local identity. The Al Galayel Championship, a hunting and falconry competition set in the South Qatari desert is a tournament that sees competitors spending four days hunting houbara, gazelle and curlews.

As this competition is a celebration of Qatar history and tradition, it has only been open to Qataris. However, this year, a tenacious German Expat, Laura Wrede, changed the rules. Over the past few years, Laura has worked with Salim Al Humaidi, a falcon trainer and father of a student at CISAK, in the sport of falconry. Her determination and the support of Mr AL Humaidi has, for the first time, resulted in the opportunity for Laura to participate, alongside a team of five other expats from across the globe, in the tournament this year.

We will be inviting Laura and Mr Al Humaidi to speak to our students about the sport of Falconry, as well as about ambition, courage and determination. Read more about Laura Wrede’s journey here, or to learn more about the Al Galayel Tournament
