Our FS and Year 1 Sports Day as well as the Year 5 to 11 Sports Day was finally able to take place. For FS and Year 1, our approach is very inclusive whilst adding elements of competition. The activity stations were varied drawing upon lots of the fundamental skills we try to develop at the age. Filling a child physical ‘toolbox’ equips them later in life to play a wide variety of more recognised sports and make choice about what they like rather than what they can’t do. Activities included Tower Building, Water Relay, Obstacle Relay and Team Golf. Children had lots of fun trying to balance objects, keep water in a small ladle, throwing objects at a target, race each other and work together to build the highest tower or collect the most amount of objects for their House.
For our older students, we draw upon skills and activities from more traditional sports whilst playing games with a twist. Danish Long Ball draws upon striking and fielding skills as well as decision making and risk taking. Rainbow Rounders involves the whole team at the same time, meaning students have to be fully aware of what everyone is doing in order to score the most points and not run each other out. Team Pursuit is a real test of stamina and speed as well as resilience and determination. Race to the Red draws upon the intricate skill of shooting into a target, a skilled used in many team invasion games. Battleball is a fun team game which tests students’ agility skills and accuracy. As always, we finished with Tug of War which the students love. From the pictures, you will see what a fun few days we had.
