OUR LOWER SECONDADRY CURRICULUM

At NAIS Rotterdam, our international secondary school nurtures individual strengths and interests while developing breadth and depth of knowledge across core subjects. Our personalised approach ensures that children receive the support needed to achieve their best, while our school’s Core Values Programme instils a sense of responsibility and global citizenship.


In Years 7 to 9, our students follow the International Middle Years Curriculum (IMYC). This holistic curriculum encourages exploration and discovery, cultivates individual talents, and sets rigorous academic foundations in specialist subjects.


Students in Years 10 and 11 follow the NAISR Pre-IB Curriculum. Our bespoke curriculum builds critical thinking and independence, preparing our students for the challenges of the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme or NAISR High School Diploma at age 16.

  • Where are your teachers from?
    We only recruit the most highly qualified and experienced teachers. All of our teachers have a degree in teaching, such as the Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) from the UK, or the equivalent from their home country. Our teachers are also passionate learners who regularly undergo training to stay informed of the latest learning approaches.
  • What curricula do you teach?

    Our students follow globally respected international curriculum pathways that support them from early years through to graduation:

    • International Early Years Curriculum (IEYC) – Ages 3 to 5
    • International Primary Curriculum (IPC) – Ages 5 to 11
    • International Middle Years Curriculum (IMYC) – Ages 11 to 16
    • International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP) or the NAISR High School Diploma – Ages 16 to 18
  • Do you offer students additional language and learning support?
    We run a successful English as an Additional Language (EAL) programme, free of charge, for Year 1 to 11 students who need extra help with their English. We also offer a Learning Support Programme for students who need supplementary academic, behavioural or social development support. This programme has an additional cost, based on the type of help a student needs.
  • What afterschool activities do you offer?
    We offer an extensive programme of afterschool activities throughout the year. Our extracurricular clubs and activities offer something for everyone, ensuring your child has the chance to do what they love. From sports and creative arts to maths and music, our enrichment programme encourages students to showcase their talents and pursue new passions.
  • Do you provide lunch?
    Yes, our school cafeteria is run by Catermaat, a leading Dutch company. They prepare hot and cold healthy meals, which give your child the energy they need for the day. Lunch subscriptions can be purchased online. Alternatively, your child is welcome to bring in a healthy packed lunch from home.
  • Do you provide a bus service?
    Yes, our safe and efficient bus service can pick your child up and drop them home at the end of the day. The cost depends on where your family is based in Rotterdam. To find out more, please contact our Admissions Team.
  • Do you provide afterschool care?
    Yes, we offer afterschool childcare for our Early Years and Primary students (3:00-6:30 pm, Monday-Friday).

    We can also look after Early Years children when they finish early on Wednesday (12:00-6:30 pm) and during the school holidays (8:00 am-5:00 pm).

    Childcare is provided by our fantastic onsite team, Funtazia. Please note, there is a charge for this service.
  • Can my child join NAISR from an American or British school?
    We welcome students from a range of educational backgrounds, and our international curricula is compatible with American, British and other common programmes. What’s more, our expert staff are trained to tailor their teaching to different stages and levels of learning. Our academic support team will help your child to adjust to their new surroundings, too, ensuring they quickly settle in.
  • Can my child join at any time?
    Yes! Admissions are open throughout the year, and your child may join us at any time during the school year. Our staff are experts at helping new students adapt and integrate into our community.
