Amali Pathirana


F1 Teacher

I studied in both Dubai and England, graduating with a BSc. I have been working as a music teacher at NAISAK for the last two academic years. I’ve achieved grades 1-8 in Piano, taking both ABRSM and Trinity Guildhall exams. I have taken part in the Young Musician of The Gulf competition as well as completing a jazz piano solo certificate. Having taken my first piano lesson at the age of 5, I have been in love with music ever since.

Throughout my childhood I have been a part of many jazz bands, orchestras and choirs and I have been involved in piano tutoring for 6 years and enjoy teaching beginners, watching them grow into passionate musicians.

My main hobby is playing the piano, especially composing piano covers of popular music. I have a passion for cooking and love nothing more than hosting dinner parties for my friends and family. In my spare time I also enjoy attending Zumba classes, photography and blogging.

Teaching students with such a vast mix of different cultures and backgrounds appealed to me when I first joined NAISAK. The strong community within the school made me feel comfortable and welcome and I’m proud to be part of the NAISAK family.

My goal for my students this year is to broaden their knowledge and appreciation of music. I plan on utilising the diversity of the students and incorporating that into my lessons.  I strive to create an environment where children feel comfortable to express themselves through music and dance.

NAISAK believes strongly in practising reciprocity during lessons, and the students are able to build on this during lessons when singing together and exploring different instruments.

This year I plan on keeping parents regularly updated on what skills and themes the children are exploring during music lessons. Parents are welcome to meet with me during Parent/Teacher Meetings, or can call or email me if they have any questions or concerns about their child’s learning. I look forward to building a positive relationship with my students’ parents.
