It is a huge privilege and honour to have been appointed as Head of Primary at NAISAK, a wonderful school that places the children at the very heart of each and every aspect of school life.
Fundamentally, I believe that education is about enabling children to achieve their full potential so that they can lead happy, self-assured and meaningful lives. The current generation of young people in schools today will be the problem solvers of the future and equipping them with the means to not only deal with problems but to create a better world is central to my purpose as an educator. To achieve this, we need to provide opportunities for our students to be thinkers, creators, inquirers and risk-takers. Engendering a lifelong love of learning is the very essence of what has always motivated me.
I am very proud to call Qatar my home, having lived here now for nearly 7 years. NAISAK will be my third school in Qatar, having previously worked at Doha English Speaking School and more recently King’s College Doha, where I spent 4 years as Deputy Headmaster and a founding member of the Senior Leadership Team. During that time, I was significantly involved in all areas of the school’s development, helping to establish its excellent reputation throughout the region.
In between my two spells in Qatar, I worked as Deputy Head of Primary at The British School of Beijing, one of Nord Anglia Education’s premium Asian international schools. I thoroughly enjoyed my time in Beijing, however the opportunity to return to Qatar and to be part of a team to build and open a new school was too tempting. This opportunity allowed me to develop a whole new set of skills which I know will always be invaluable.
Before making the decision to teach and work overseas, I worked in a variety of different of schools in the South East of England. Although I have spent the majority of my career as a Primary Educator and Leader, I have been fortunate to be in the unique position whereby I have taught in both Primary and Secondary schools.
I studied at the University of Leicester for 5 years and gained a BA in History and Archaeology, an MSc in Finance and a PGCE in Secondary History.
Outside of school I have many interests, however sport has always played a huge part in my life. I enjoy keeping fit and running. I’ve completed 4 marathons, two of which were on The Great Wall of China. Football has always kept me fit over the years and I have been lucky to have enjoyed a semi-professional football career in each country I have worked and lived in. Although I still play football for fun, my playing days seem to be coming to an end!
I live in Qatar with my wife Kate, who is an Early Years specialist and Manger of an established Nursery. We have two beautiful children, Henry (4) and Maggie (9 months). As a family we love spending time out in the open air, going on new adventures and discovering new places.
I look forward to welcoming you all to NAISAK.
