My name is Michelle Lopmeier and I was born and raised in Toronto, Ontario, Canada. Following High School I lived in Cognac, France for a year as an au pair, improving my French and my taste for French cooking! After attaining a Bachelor of Arts in Comparative Development Studies and Anthropology from Trent University in Peterborough, Ontario, I fulfilled my dream to see more of the world. I have travelled extensively in Africa and the Middle East, which fuelled my desire to live abroad to experience the world more fully. I worked for many years in Canada in school-age day-care and after school programmes and knew that I was meant to work with children. I received a Bachelor of Education from Lakehead University in Thunder Bay, Ontario in 2002 and then moved to Dublin, Ireland. I taught four, five and six-year olds for 3 memorable years in a school in the north of the city. It was in Dublin that I met my Irish husband and we have been working and living abroad ever since! I have lived and worked in Kuala Lumpur, Mumbai, Muscat and Dubai before coming to Doha. I have taught children from ages 2-15 and have extensive experience with those students whose first language is not English.
I have decided to work at NAISAK as it is a supportive environment for both teachers and students alike. The ‘High Five’ guiding principles demonstrate NAISAK’s commitment to achievement and the aim of ambition for all its students. I believe in a classroom that is supportive and accepting of all children of all levels of ability, a place where learning is fun and children can grow to be self-sufficient and confident learners.
