Bilqis Desai


Year 4 Teacher

Hello, my name is Bilqis Desai, I am a newly qualified primary school teacher and a somewhat qualified mother of two boys! I am from the city of Leicester in the Midlands region of the UK.

I embarked on my teaching journey in 2014 when I began my undergraduate degree in Education Studies at De Montfort University. My degree provided me with a wealth of knowledge of children’s education and also enabled me to specialise in an area of child development which I’m passionate about - facilitating learning and development for children who are new to English. This led me to go on to complete a Masters in English Language Teaching as I sought to widen my knowledge and understanding of English language acquisition. In 2019, I also gained my PGCE from the University of Leicester.

After qualifying as a teacher, I undertook a long-term supply teaching role at an inner-city school in my home city. Here, I taught a year 5 class, which I thoroughly enjoyed, and it allowed me to put everything I had learnt from my teacher training to use. Outside of teaching, I enjoy spending quality time with my boys, cooking (my husband and I are big foodies!), playing badminton, travelling and of course escaping into the fictional reality of a good novel.

I am very grateful to be joining NAISAK as an NQT - it is both an exciting and challenging endeavour I am looking forward to experiencing. Teaching has always been a lifelong passion of mine, however, my motivation to pursue a career in teaching was truly ignited once I had children of my own. My education has proved invaluable to me as I have been able to utilise the knowledge I acquired from my respective degrees and my teacher training to shape my pedagogy. I hope to continue to develop professionally and take advantage of the opportunities available at NAISAK.

The decision to join NAISAK and make the move to Qatar was an easy one. My husband and I have always wanted to be able to travel the world and experience different cultures, so when the opportunity arose to join NAISAK, it didn’t take much persuading. I was especially drawn to the values and ethos of the school as they align well with my own beliefs on education; I particularly admire the school’s focus on global learning as I am very passionate about enabling children to develop their confidence, become responsible citizens and developing their intercultural competence.

I look forward to joining the NAISAK team and bringing my energy and enthusiasm to the classroom!
