Jamie Hughes
Principal

Jamie is a highly skilled leader and educator with significant international school experience, garnered from his time in the Middle East and Asia. Passionate about making sure every student fulfils their potential, Jamie focuses on developing learners who are great thinkers, creators, inquirers, and problem-solvers.

Jamie Hughes

Jamie joined NAISAK in 2020, having previously held senior leadership roles at two international schools in Qatar and a Nord Anglia Education school in Beijing. He has a range of qualifications, including a Master’s in Finance and a PGCE in History.

At the heart of Jamie's educational philosophy is his enduring commitment to making sure learning is fun and engaging. His mission is to create opportunities for each student to play to their strengths and unlock their inherent potential, empowering them to lead fulfilling, purpose-driven lives.

Samuel Lomax
Deputy Head of Primary School

Samuel joined NAISAK in 2018, having previously taught year 5 and 6 children in the UK. An educational innovator, Samuel ensures we deliver imaginative lessons that enrich our younger students’ learning.

Samuel Lomax

Samuel joined us in 2018 as Head of Year 6, with a passion to nurture happy, engaged, and lifelong young learners. He is also a primary assessment coordinator.

Samuel is a keen educational innovator who loves to deliver exciting lessons that enhance our students’ learning. He places great importance on creating engaging classroom environments that both motivate and support. He also fosters a culture where teachers build positive relationships with each child. This develops confidence and self-esteem, and ensures our children grow into successful individuals, ready for the challenge of secondary school.

Joy Marie Bromfield
Assistant Head of Primary

Joy has taught and held educational leadership roles for more than 10 years, initially in the UK before moving to Qatar. With high expectations for the children in her care, Joy ensures each student benefits from the right balance of challenge and support in a safe and inclusive environment.

Joy is an exceptional educator with more than 13 years’ teaching and leadership experience. She is currently our Assistant Head of Primary, Designated Safeguarding Lead, and the Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion Champion.

With a passion for wellbeing, Joy strives to create a nurturing and inclusive environment where every child can thrive. Her extensive experience in education, both in the UK and Qatar, has given her a valuable insight into the importance of building genuine connections with students, teachers, and families, too.

Joy is committed to staying at the forefront of teaching best practice, continuously seeking out innovative approaches that inspire and engage. This creates an ambitious, vibrant learning environment, which brings out the best in every child.

Kevin Ferry
Head of Secondary

Kevin has an abundance of qualifications and international leadership experience, gained in senior roles across the Middle East and Europe. As Head of Secondary, Kevin ensures we deliver the exceptional teaching, academic excellence, and holistic support our older students need to create their own bright futures.

Kevin Ferry

Kevin joined NAISAK in 2022, having previously taught and been Head of Secondary at an international school in Doha. Prior to moving to Qatar, Kevin held senior leadership roles at two schools in Glasgow, Scotland. He’s also been a Head of Pastoral Care and Head of Business Studies.

Kevin’s priority is ensuring each student gets exactly where they want to go in life. Working closely with his team, Kevin delivers the exceptional teaching, British academic standards, and all-round care our learners need to forge their own path to success. Wellbeing is especially vital at this stage in our students’ education, and Kevin has implemented a range of approaches to ensure everyone is nurtured, supported, and can take responsibility for their learning.

Sarfraz is an experienced senior leader and passionate lifelong learner, who has a breadth of teaching and leadership qualifications. Committed to innovation in the classroom, Sarfraz ensures our secondary students have the best possible opportunities to succeed academically and thrive as global citizens.

Sarfraz Akran

After starting his career teaching business and economics, Sarfraz moved into leadership roles in UK schools, including as Head of Sixth Form, Director of Behaviour, Ethos and Culture, and Assistant Principal.

Sarfraz is a committed lifelong learner who has a Master’s in Education, as well as the National Professional Qualification for Senior Leadership and National Professional Qualification for Headship. He has also been awarded a Fellowship (FCCT) from the Chartered College of Teaching.

Passionate about providing our community with the best possible learning opportunities, Sarfraz helps our older students to discover their talents and flourish academically. He also ensures the latest educational techniques, technology, and research are embedded into our classrooms, creating inspiring and engaging experiences.

Kathleen Lyons
Head of Early Years

Kathleen joined us in 2016, having previously taught at an international school in Abu Dhabi. An early years specialist, Kathleen and her team work hard to create a warm, happy, and supportive environment for our youngest learners.

Prior to joining NAISAK in 2016, Kathleen taught at an international school in Abu Dhabi. A qualified early years practitioner, Kathleen also has experience teaching primary students.

Kathleen has played a vital role in the growth of our early years approach. Working closely with students, parents, and staff, she’s fostered a strong community that’s welcoming, inviting, and full of happy, smiling faces. Kathleen also ensures each student receives the care and attention they need to hit important milestones.

Joseph has a rich background in teaching and middle leadership, having worked in schools across Europe and the Middle East. As Assistant Head of Secondary, Joseph ensures we deliver academic excellence while simultaneously helping our students to develop the skills they need to flourish as people.

Joe Hawker

Joseph brings a wealth of qualifications to NAISAK, including a Master’s in Education. A specialist in English literature, Joseph is passionate about discursive learning, and believes that high-quality, engaging experiences are the key to unlocking our students’ full potential.

In his role as Assistant Head of Secondary, Joseph sets high academic expectations. He also works with the team to create a nurturing, empathetic environment, where every student can be themselves and learn in a way that works for them.

Kevin James
Director of Special Educational Needs
Kevin was born and raised in Llanelli, Wales where he was fortunate enough to have been taught by excellent teachers throughout his childhood. As a result, he always wanted to pass this on to future generations. He completed my PGCE in Primary Education in 2014; since then, he has been teaching in Qatar. He has enjoyed taking on extra responsibilities, such as head of Student Voice, English, maths and science coordinator and Head of Year and is now the school’s Director of Special Educational Needs.

Kevin James
Throughout his teaching career he has been heavily involved in the extra-curricular life of the school, leading sessions in football, iPads and chess to name but a few.  Outside of the classroom he is a keen sportsman. He enjoys taking part in a variety of sports including football, rugby and CrossFit. He is a huge Manchester United fan and always love to watch Wales play rugby and football.
