Head of Science

I am a Science graduate with a Bachelor’s degree in Education and have gained the iPGCE from a UK university. I have been teaching for twenty years. My husband’s job means that we have travelled a lot, and that is what brought us to Qatar. I have had the opportunity to work in different schools and with different groups of people. Prior to joining Nord Anglia International School Al Khor, I taught Secondary School Physics, worked as a whole-school Activity Coordinator, as well as an Assistant Headmistress. 

I began working at NAISAK as a Primary School teacher, and then took on the role of Science Coordinator and Head of Year 4. This year, I will continue to work as the Science Coordinator for the whole school, and teach Science at Key Stage 3 and Key Stage 4 in Secondary.

I am very proud of my family. My husband is a Chemical Engineer, my eldest daughter is pursuing Petroleum Engineering in Australia and my youngest daughter is currently in Year 11. I am very passionate about my profession and I always aspire to nurture young minds into reaching their potential and creating something new. My love of science means that I love nature. I have two hobbies: cooking and gardening.

When I first came to NAISAK (CISAK then), I felt like I was going to relive an experience I had at a previous school, where I was part of the initial founding team. Today, however, I can say that working at NAISAK has been a whole new experience. The Leadership Team has always provided a clear and co-constructed mission and vision for the school. The school has a culture and ethos that is conducive to learning. The leaders of NAISAK, in my opinion, have followed the motto ‘Don't care about your title. Care about the results’. The freedom of expression is in the air, you can feel it. I have had constant support and encouragement in school and so I am on the journey of discoveries once again. The infrastructure and the resources are excellent, and there are plenty of opportunities for professional development.

This year, I intend to set learning targets for my IGCSE students; as such, setting a firm base for IGCSE Science will be my goal. In line with our promises, I believe I can provide creative and challenging learning for my students. I would like to contribute to our cohort’s confidence and pride in our achievements, and work together to constantly strive for improvement.

Communicating to parents regularly will enable me to create a platform for dialogue. This will help each and every student to succeed in his or her learning, as communication and understanding between home and school is very important. I would like to work with my students’ parents to ensure that targets are reached, or exceeded.
