To wrap up our Bake It unit students researched bread recipes from around the world.  They included where the recipe came from, any cultural or historical significance, and nutritional value.  Students were responsible for making a list of ingredients and copying the directions for baking the bread.  Ms. June and Ms. Tina from our marketing department came in and spoke to the students about the importance of marketing, branding, and logos, Mrs. Kirsty instructed students in creating packaging and labels. Students then were tasked with creating a brand, logo, and packaging for their bread.

The next step the students went into the student kitchens and with the help of parent volunteers they made their breads.  The final task was for the groups to present their finished products to a team of judges.  The groups were judged on taste, texture, and appearance of the bread as well as effectiveness of packaging, logo design, and nutritional values.

We were pleased to have Chef Benson from the Waldorf Asortia, and former LIS graduate, come to judge the students’ final products.  We want to extend our deepest gratitude and appreciation to our judges, Chef Benson, Mrs. Kirtsy, Ms. June, and Mr. Richard for stepping up and tasting our bread.  Thank you very much to all the parents that were able to come in a support and supervise the students in the kitchens while cooking.
