As the semester draws to a close, we’d like to write you about our swimming program. This is something that we are very grateful to be able to offer at Léman. Swimming is an invaluable life skill for everyone and something we understand has tremendous value for all of our students.
At our Early Years level, students are becoming comfortable in the pool area and gaining confidence in the water. They are developing their kicks and beginning to see how their coordination translates into propulsion in the water. Our Primary students continue along this path, gaining confidence underwater and bringing their arms and full body into the equation to start swimming the four major strokes. At the secondary level, we explore many different aspects of swimming, from workouts and training, water safety and rescue towards racing and relays.
We are now completing our second sessions in the water for all classes. Beyond the physical and physiological benefits of swimming, our programs in the pool intend to give our students the ability to pursue all of the different paths that being a swimmer can offer.
With confidence and ability in the water, our students can pursue their passions in an ambitious manner. There is of course the recreational benefits of being able to swim in the many stunning locations throughout Asia and the world. Students can pursue lifeguarding and safety based pursuits. Students can challenge themselves to develop as competitive swimmers and compete within CISA or at ACAMIS meets. Being a confident swimmer is also integral to enjoying water sports like waterpolo, synchronized swimming, waterskiing, wakeboarding and sailing. Scuba diving is a personal favourite and something that provides a water experience unlike any other. At a time when the health of our oceans is in jeopardy, being a swimmer and gaining a better understanding of the role that water plays in our lives on Earth is another invaluable benefit.
Thanks to our entire Léman community for their support through the logistics of the swimming program. We are so proud of the work of our PE team in teaching our students more and more about the exciting world of swimming. This summer, with the support of our parent organization, Nord Anglia Education, we will continue to make important renovations to our change rooms and pool area to keep providing our community with the absolute best in order to pursue their passions.
