OUR SOCIAL PURPOSE

At BISW, we care deeply about the world around us. We’ll make sure that your child has everything they need to be empowered to make a difference in this world.

SUPPORTING COMMUNITIES NEAR AND FAR

At BISW, serving our communities is an important part of our curriculum – so we’re always looking for ways we can make a tangible impact. We guide our students as they research, reflect on, and manage their own projects to help people in need. In turn, your child will find their own social purpose.

We see incredible impact every year during our Citizenship Expedition. For instance, our senior students helped to build construction projects in local communities. They also learned about sustainable development and the environment, and as a result, they developed their global citizenship.

Our IB students also make a local difference in Washington, DC: they volunteer in hospitals, organize car washes for hurricane relief, and create art to fundraise for charities like Martha’s Table, Diaper Bank DC, So Others Might Eat, and Bread for the City.

A GLOBAL CAMPUS FOR GLOBAL CITIZENS

As a Nord Anglia premium international school, our students have a fantastic opportunity to connect with their peers from other parts of the world through Global Campus – our inspiring NAE online platform with learning material on social impact and global challenges.

At BISW, we encourage our students to think big: how can they be change makers?

Our students learn about the UN Convention on the Rights of the Child, for example, which prepares them for our collaboration with UNICEF, the world’s leading advocate for children’s lives and rights. On World Children’s Day, our students learn how to respond to timely global needs and are pushed to play a better part in the world.

In our UNICEF “Global Challenge,” your child will explore ways to support the United Nations’ 2030 Agenda, which is led by 17 Sustainable Development Goals. Whether it’s starting a new project or proposing other meaningful activities based on the 17 SDGs, our students are making positive changes around causes they truly care about.
