Mr Mark Sayer Weekly Update 8/4/2016

I try to wander around the school as much as possible to meet students, to see classes and events, to support staff and hear from them what issues are on their minds.  I seldom feel like I do it enough.

Mr Mark Sayer Weekly Update 8/4/2016 I try to wander around the school as much as possible to meet students, to see classes and events, to support staff and hear from them what issues are on their minds. I seldom feel like I do it enough.

I try to wander around the school as much as possible to meet students, to see classes and events, to support staff and hear from them what issues are on their minds.  I seldom feel like I do it enough.

But on a recent tour of the corridors and teaching areas of the school, there was a tangible sense of engagement and learning, committed instruction was obvious in every classroom.  The students were attentive, having fun in their learning and making progress.

It has also been a pleasure to hear of the high achievements of the students.  Even the most casual chat with a child in the corridor gives me a sense of wonder at their determination, hard work, good humour and honest endeavour.  Letters from Year 2; welcoming smiles from Year 10s; warm, engaging conversation with Year 7s: just a few of the recent encounters this past fortnight that have encouraged me in the knowledge that we have some fantastic teachers, well supported by our team of admin and support staff, providing an experience that your children are loving.

The assemblies this week have all been about recognition.  So much has happened this term within this busy and vibrant school.  There is a passion in the staff; a passion to be involved, to make a difference and the children are warming to this care and attention.  The children are learning to make the most of these opportunities and we, in turn, are recognising their participation and involvement, and, increasingly, the wonderful standards of achievement.   This is a positive cycle, as it builds enjoyment, confidence and further achievement.

You will be able to read more of this in the two Heads of Section newsletters this week.  I am deeply grateful to all the staff for their hard work this term as in every term, but more importantly for their genuine care and commitment to the welfare, success and experiences of your children.  Witness the sporting extras, the training sessions and match opportunities.  Witness the additional IGCSE coursework classes and revision sessions, to name but two.   Most of this of course is unseen by parents but is so valuable to shaping our school’s ethos and your children’s life chances.

I wish you a very happy holiday and look forward to seeing you all again on Monday 25th April.
