Week Beginning 27 February 2017

This week is a short week. We will finish on Thursday 2 March and will return to school on Wednesday 8 March. Enjoy the break!

  • We do our best to ensure the children’s hair is dried after swimming. To support us with this please can you make sure that your child brings a rubber swim hat, and a warm hat for outside play. Thank you for your continued support with this.
  • Now the weather is colder, please send your child with a coat and/or school fleece clearly labelled with their name.  Please do not send ‘hoodies’.  Children may also like to bring a hat to keep their head warm, especially after swimming.
  • Year 3 will be going to The Bund/YuYuan gardens as part of our Pictures, Paintings and Photographs topic. Children will require school uniform and outdoor coat (they may wear trainers for this trip). Whilst on this trip they will take a set of photographs that they will manipulate back at school to creat photo montages in the style of David Hockney.

In Literacy, we will begin our Fantasy settings unit. The children will discuss the features of a descriptive setting. We will identify the use of past tense, adjectives and similes to create a mental image for the reader. We will then begin to write their own settings based on forests.

Fantasy, imagination, image, past tense, adjective, simile, emotive language

In Maths, the children will be consolidating the  use of division and division with remainders. There will be opportunity to do some investigative work and one and two step problems related to division.

In Themed Learning we will be experimenting with a range of collage techniques such as overlapping and layering to create images. The children will work as teams to create a large landscape photo montage of the different landscapes you see around Shanghai.

In Computer Programming the children will be learning to manipulate and edit photographs. They will then use the photographs to make a short video montage. We will show the children how to import images onto the computer and save them. As well as modelling using http://ipiccy.com to edit photos. Children use iPiccy.com to play with the effects of their landscape photography.

Our focus this week in PHSCE will be to collaborate. This will be an important to ensure successful theatre designs. When working as a team, we will be focusing on listening to others, sharing ideas and opinions, being patient with each other and making compromises.

Thema Blijspel
