Health and safety updates in Secondary science classrooms at Northbridge

For school year 2022-2023, Northbridge International School Cambodia installed some updates in the Secondary Science Laboratory Classrooms that the NISC Health and Safety Audit Committee has been working on from the previous school year based on the Nord Anglia Regional Manager on Health and Safety suggestions.

Starting this school year, we established the following updates:

  • Student Laboratory Contract Forms signed by parents and students to be informed of the Science Laboratory General and Additional Rules and to ensure that Secondary Science Department will be aware of students’ use of contact lenses, color blindness and allergies that needs to be considered in the execution of science experiments in the Secondary Science Laboratory Classrooms.
  • A Science Safety Handbook also took effect starting this school year regarding the guidance on proper use of Secondary Science Laboratory Classrooms.
  • The Science Laboratory Technician and Curriculum Leader went from monthly inspection from previous school year to weekly inspection this school year checking on the different laboratory aspects: General Work Environment, Documentation, Personal Protective Equipment, Electrical and General Equipment Hazards, Chemical Storage and Labeling, Flammables, Compressed Gases, Waste Disposal, Fume Hoods, Awareness and General Laboratory Conditions.
  • Inventory of chemicals, resources, laboratory kits etc. have been organized and made available for all Secondary Science teachers.
  • Creation of CD/DVD Secondary Science Teachers Reference Mini Library.
  • Science Laboratory kits and models are now relocated to different Science Laboratory Classrooms for easy access of Secondary Science teachers and students during classroom sessions.
  • Acquiring a portable eyewash kit that can be carried during out of school trips.Adding a sand bucket in case of fire emergencies.

Hoping for a safe year ahead of us!
