My teaching career started in the USA and has extended to Japan, Malaysia, Thailand, the UAE and Cambodia. I have earned a Bachelor's of Science Degree in Mass Media and a Master's of Arts degree in Communications from Missouri State University. I hold a license to teach Language/Communication Arts and English from Grades 5 to 12 in Missouri, USA. I have a Cambridge Certificate in English Teaching to adults and an International Baccaaureate Certificate in Teaching and Learning through Bethel University.
Teaching for me is about inspiring students to find their own voice and to tell their own meaningful stories. Teaching is about creating the space and experiences for understanding to occur. Some students come to school as competent social communicators. Many students need more time and practice to master their academic language skills - a process which may take up to five years. I feel fortunate that I have been chosen by NISC to be an integral part in all of my students development in becoming eloquent and effective communicators. I actively sought out my position with NISC beacuse the school offers this unique opportunity for English Learners in a dynamic, entertaining environment.
This year, I am one of the Northbridge Intensive Coaching in English Teachers. I am originally from St. Charles, Missouri. I am married and have two young sons. Since the birth of my sons, I dont have as much time for hobbies but when I get the chance I enjoy exercise, practicing Tai Chi, learning Khmer and watching movies.
What the students would say about me...
Students say that I am somewhat strict when it comes to class procedures, but they also say that I know how to laugh when I catch myself breaking our Essential Agreements!
This school is different to all others I have worked at because ...
I feel that NISC is exceptional in the way it offers an individually tailored learning experience with additional access to numerous unique initiatives offered through Nord Anglia Education (MIT, The Juilliard School, Pamoja Educaiton and much more)
