Coming Together

  • bookfair3

A parent asked me a helpful question about the book fair.

“What is the benefit of the book fair to the parents?”

“Hmm” I thought.

Obviously, the benefit to students is that they get shiny new books and enjoy the atmosphere of the fair. The school library benefits from the sales, as Scholastic returns 50% of the profit back to the library to buy more books. But for the parents, I have observed that the greatest benefit is community, for everyone in fact, this may be the greatest benefit. Popping in to enjoy a short time of catching up on each other’s lives and maybe even exchanging book recommendations; this is what makes our BISC Linconl Park community stronger and warmer.

It is a benefit for me as well, I so enjoy getting to know our BISC Lincoln Park families. I feel I know and understand our students much better this way. And the fair is one of those unique gatherings that are open to the whole school at the same time. So, even if your family is already well-stocked with books, I encourage everyone to hang out and enjoy our  community at the fair. I personally, would love to get to know each one of your families.
