Kirsty Gallo

Kirsty Deathe

Values, Pastoral and Student Leadership Senior Leader

I grew up in Leicestershire, England with my brother, Adam and mum and dad. I always enjoyed playing 'teachers' from an early age and graduated from Chester College in Cheshire in 2000 with a teaching degree. My first years were spent teaching in Birmingham, England until I moved to Chicago in 2009. Here, I am able to continue my love of traveling and playing sports by adding Central America and China to my list of places traveled since living here and even played netball for the U.S.A. squad in 2012 in Trinidad! I have since become a keen Crossfitter and continue to enjoy new challenges as and when I can find them! Chicago is a wonderful city, and it continues to provide me with much happiness. From roller-blading along the lakefront path at sunset, to battling those chilly, wintery storms, Chicago is the place I call 'home'.

My first classroom displayed the quote 'Shoot for the moon, even if you miss, you will land among the stars'. It soon became the motto of all my classrooms, and one I continue to use. The idea now parallels that of our Nord Anglia Education idea of 'Be Ambitious'. Children who aim high, who see no ceiling, no roof, no barrier, to at least aiming high, are always able to achieve more than they thought. By instilling in our children, the notion of reaching, stretching, trying, hoping, they provide themselves with their own limitless target. It is a well-known quote, but one that children live by in order to achieve all they set out to. Reaching for that moon allows children to be among those stars. But with drive, determination and a self-belief... they can sometimes make it all the way to the moon.
