I have been at British International School of Chicago, Lincoln Park, for 3 years, teaching in Reception. Prior to this, I taught Year One in a rural school in Yorkshire, in the North of England where I am from.

Both here and in my previous school I have relished leading the subject of Literacy, as it is something I am passionate about. It teams well with my other love, the performing arts. I am a qualified dance teacher with the International Dance Teacher’s Association and taught singing, dance and drama for a stage school for 11 years, working with children from 2-18.

I have loved the global nature of the school where it has been wonderful to bring together the varied experiences of our families and learn from each other. The children have a real interest in and knowledge of the world as a result, which makes teaching and learning all the more exciting. I look forward to my move to Year 1 and being part of the next step of the learning journey I have seen so far in these children throughout Reception.

I grew up in London and, after finishing my degree, I took a range of jobs in the city before deciding to enter the teaching profession. My wife is from Michigan, we met when we were both working as summer camp counselors in Maine, and we married in 2009, staying in London for 3 years before making the move across the Atlantic to Chicago. I am a West Ham fan and run the supporters' club here in the city. There are plenty of reasons to like Chicago, but the one thing I love is that it is made up so many different people and cultures from across the globe, creating a culturally rich environment that you can see and hear and feel.
