Staff Profile: Maxine Gunner

Maxine Gunner

Key Stage 1 Learning Support Assistant

I worked in a pre-school in the UK before becoming an expat. This is my second stint in Houston and I had previously been a volunteer at BISH. I decided to take on a more involved role now that my son has graduated and my daughter is about to start her IB.

I have 2 children who have been students at BISH, my son just graduated and is off to university in the UK. My daughter has just completed her GCSEs and is about to start her IB diploma. We first arrived in Houston just after Hurricane Ike and as a family we love road trips around the USA. I enjoy reading, knitting and baking.

This school is different to all others I've worked at because...

BISH is unique in that it embraces a child’s education from the early years all the way through to post 16. Each member of staff has an input, no matter which year group you are in which is refreshing to see. The whole ethos of the school is to involve everybody in the nurture of the students. I love to see the older kids working alongside the younger ones and with so many nationalities on one campus each child has something to offer regardless of their age.
