Staff Profile: Sarah Lees

Sarah Lees Year 2 Primary Class Teacher

Year 1 & 2 Phase Leader and Year 1 Class Teacher

I began my teaching career ten years ago after gaining my BA in Primary Education from university.  Since starting I have worked as a Foundation Stage, Year 1 and Year 2 teacher.  I have always enjoyed working with younger children and how every day offers so much enjoyment and variation.  Before moving to the British International School of Houston, I was Literacy Leader and Phase Leader for four years.  This allowed me to implement new initiatives in the teaching of Literacy which is something that I have always had an interest in.

I decided to make the move to Houston as I had always wanted to teach in an international school, particularly in the USA.  I had taken part in an exchange scheme after finishing my schooling in the UK and this gave me the opportunity to work in an American elementary school, which then led to me wanting to become a teacher.  BISH has given me the opportunity to work within a global community where I get to meet and draw upon the experiences of many, who have lived in various places around the world.

I have always enjoyed travelling and visiting new places which is something I intend on making the most of whilst living in Houston. I enjoy reading in my free time and visiting book shops and libraries.  Houston has given me the ideal opportunity to visit the various theatres and I have seen a few shows since arriving.

What the students say about me

The children in my class described me as being a fun teacher who helps to make the learning exciting. They also said that I am nice and kind, and ready to listen to them.

This School is different to all others I have worked at because…

The staff and children all have such varied life experiences which are extremely interesting to draw upon and help to broaden the learning experiences in the classroom.
