Rice University brought me to Houston, where I finished my master’s in flute performance. A highlight of my time there was performing with the symphony at Carnegie Hall. Continuing my development in education at Rice, I studied as a Brown Scholar, teaching movement inspired music classes to young children in the Shepherd School Young Children’s Division. Since graduation, I have performed with the Houston Grand Opera and the Louisiana Philharmonic in their regular concerts seasons, and with the Trade Winds Quintet as a guest artist lecturer in music outreach at the 2015 Wright State Univeristy Double Reed Festival. Additionally I have held fellowship positions at Sarasota, Aspen, Brevard, and Hot Springs Summer Music Festivals Currently, I am a young artist with Da Camera of Houston, an organization devoted to accessible chamber music and jazz.
As an enthusiastic outreach and education advocate, I coordinated the Shepherd School Just 4 U Music Program (JUMP!), an outreach project, which involved designing educational outreach programs, coordinating a schedule of several collegiate chamber ensembles, and coaching them on their presentations for school children. I am a past staff member of Belvoir Terrace Summer Performing Arts Camp, The Village School and the Vivaldi Music Academy, and currently teach flute at Cook Middle School and flute, clarinet and saxophone at BISH. Recently, I completed a certificate in Social Entrepreneurship, Teaching Artistry, and Orchestral Leadership with the Global Leaders Program of the Youth Orchestra of the Americas in partnership with McGill University and the University of Oxford. The program sent me on teaching missions to the Esperanza Azteca centers of Guanajuato, Mexico and to Saint Croix, of the US Virgin Islands.
I am very excited to join the BISH music team this year because it is a school that strives for the best, valuing learning through the arts.
When I have free time, I like to take walks in various parts of my city (especially the park!), or explore Barnes and Noble. One of my favorite things is to make new friends and hear their stories. I believe sharing in community is very important and spending time with my friends- old and new- is always a highlight of my week.
This school is different to all others I've worked at because...
The British International School of Houston blew me away with its new campus, resources, staff and students! Aside from the incredible technology available, it truly is a land of opportunity when it comes to creative education. I especially resonate with the idea of large, in-depth units and hope to connect what we are doing in music to the primary classroom! I am struck by the dedication of the team of teachers and their welcoming, kind demeanour. My students come in inquisitive, with so much to add to my lesons. They make my job exciting and new every day!
