I have been studying German, my mother tongue, ESL and French in Freiburg, Germany. My final paper was about inter- and intracultural education. During my studies, I had an opportunity to work as an assistant teacher in Oxford and studied in Paris as well. After graduating I have worked as an international exchange teacher in Charlotte, NC with VIf and then again in Houston, TX with the STEP program from Berlin, Germany.
Over the years I have enjoyed working on different international campuses to teach languages and cultures. Last year I worked at the German American Elementary School which gave me the opportunity to learn a lot about primary language instruction for students in their mother tongue. I have also worked for several years at the Deutsche Samstagsschule of Houston where I have been teaching teenagers in German as a Foreign language. Moreover, I have worked with mango languages to teach corporate clients online. With Global LT I also worked with corporate clients and families to prepare them culturally and in the target languages German, ESL and French.
I was born in Hamburg, Germany and have two wonderful children Juliette, 12 and Anthony, 10 . We love going to the movies and playing board games together. Besides that I love reading and the theatre.
This School is different to all others I have worked at because…
The global, open and international campus is a wonderful place to teach student centred and to be creative; the teams of the teachers are very supportive.
What the students say about me...
“Mrs Ulmer is enthusiastic and creative. She is fun, empathetic and encouraging.”
“Her theatre and fairy tale program is empowering and gives space to express myself on stage and with the creation of the stage backdrop.”
