After completing my A-Levels in 2008, I began my studies in Early Childhood Education and graduated in 2011 with a Higher National Diploma. During the ‘HND’ course I had fantastic work experience opportunities, which helped me determine which career path I wanted to follow. I was given the chance to volunteer in many different education settings such as Primary schools, day cares and a teenage day camp. This is my fourth academic year with Nord Anglia International School, when I first started here, I was the assistant teacher for the Twos program and for the past two years I have been the Physical Education Teacher. I couldn’t ask for a better job, the children love coming to the gym for P.E lessons and getting to explore our wide range of equipment. One of the main reasons I love teaching P.E is that I get to teach all our students from Nursery up to Middle School. I am also a student at City College, New York, where I am continuing my Childhood Education studies to become New York certified.
There are so many things about our school that make it unique from others and a great place to work. The main being the students. We have children here from all over the world and it is amazing to see them all share their stories of where they come from and make new friends. There is always such a positive atmosphere here and an exciting buzz between staff, parents and students. A very close knit friendly school community!
I grew up in Derry, Ireland and have been living in New York just over four years. As a child I was always into sports. I stayed late after school almost every day to participate in whatever sport club was offered! I then joined the school netball team and played for a few years before going on to win the All-Ireland finals in Dublin! I am the oldest child and only daughter with five younger brothers! I suppose a career working with children was going to be a given!
