Global Orchestra Auditions Taking Place Next Week

Auditions for the Nord Anglia Education (NAE)-funded Global Orchestra - which will eventually be held in New York in the summer - are almost here. 14 young students from Regents will soon find out whether their weeks of practice have paid off.

The Global Orchestra is a unique initiative shared by the 35 NAE schools around the world – which includes Regents International School Pattaya. It will consist of a choir, soloists and instrumental ensembles that will join together this June for an exclusive week long residential programme in the Big Apple and culminate in a public performance to celebrate their musical accomplishments.

Held next Monday and Tuesday after classes, the school’s best pianists, vocalists, string and woodwind instrumentalists will compete to be one of the five chosen by the Music Department to be put forward to another panel of NAE judges who will eventually choose just three local students to attend the life-changing ensemble. The youngest performer auditioning is just 11 years old.

Head of the Secondary Music Department, Emily Andrews, who herself is heading to New York next week to take part in the creation of a curriculum unique to Nord Anglia schools at the world-renowned Juilliard conservatory, is both excited and nervous for the students auditioning.

“We had so many students who wanted to take part but we could only pick 14 to audition. This will be whittled down to five and then finally to three, so it really is highly competitive. We have some real talent at Regents International School Pattaya, so whoever makes it through is sure to represent the school well in New York.”

Principal Iain Blaikie says the continuing support from Nord Anglia Education in the realm of performing arts is helping create a department brimming with talent that will be the envy of international schools in Thailand and further abroad.

“The Global Orchestra is such a great opportunity for our talented students. To have a platform such as this to showcase their abilities will go a long way indeed.”
