On a Mission to Save the Earth

Keeping their fingers well and truly on the pulse of the latest happenings in space exploration, Regents International School, Pattaya's KS3 students watched the amazing sight of NASA'S Osiris-Rex spacecraft being launched early Friday morning. The spacecraft was launched into orbit by an Atlas V rocket.

Science teacher, Mr McKenna, explained to the students the (slightly scary) purpose of the mission – the spacecraft will rendezvous with a distant asteroid called Bennu, which has a small chance of colliding with Earth in the future. Osiris will take samples from Bennu and bring them back to Earth for analysis in 7 years time.Scientists need to collect information in case the asteroid needs to be moved off course to avoid a collision with Earth!

Students were fascinated by the whole event and made commemorative badges at the end of the lesson.

So the question is - will any Regents' students be in the elite research team analysing the samples from Osiris in the future? Of course they will!
