What is RISE?
The Regents International Study and English (RISE) Programme has been specially designed for students aged from 14 to 17 who aim to:
Gain access to the mainstream courses at Regents but who need to improve their English language skills first.
Study the IB Diploma or A-Levels at a British boarding school in the UK or elsewhere, but who need to improve their English language skills first
Try boarding school life close to home before committing to move to a school further afield, such as one in North America or the UK
Spend a rewarding one-, two-, or three-term period at a British international boarding school, improving their English, enriching their knowledge of a range of subjects and being introduced to the wonderful country of Thailand
What’s new in RISE?
With RISE due to launch in August 2014, we are pleased to announce the academic make-up of RISE. Almost half of all lessons (20 per week) will be devoted to specialist English language tuition. With no more than 8 students to each teacher, the lessons will be suitable for a wide range of learners, from those who have no English to those who have already attained a reasonable standard. Students on RISE will learn to read and respond with thought to a variety of texts, express themselves in English and to write using academic vocabulary.
In addition to English, students on RISE will be able to build a bespoke curriculum based on the following set of subjects:
Maths, Science, Design Technology, Art and Design, ICT, Geography, History, Business & Economics
RISE to build on outstanding track record
RISE may be a new programme at Regents, but it certainly won’t be the first time we’ve welcomed a student into school for a single academic year. In August 2013, we were joined by 16 year old Antonia from Germany, who is just nearing the end of her three terms as a Year 12 boarder. Has she benefitted from the experience? Here’s what her father has to say:
“My 16-year-old daughter, Antonia enjoyed a very rewarding academic year at Regents. She learnt much from the school’s British and international education system and at the same time experienced Thai culture first-hand. Living in the school’s boarding house allowed her to meet other young people from a wide range of nationalities and backgrounds. I would recommend the school to other parents.”
