Staff Profile: Catherine Sharman

Catherine Sharman

PA to the Principal

Cath completed a BA in Italian in 1996 at Royal Holloway, University of London and shortly afterwards took up a role in Export Shipping. From there she subsequently moved into international sales roles using her French and Italian language skills, experiencing a variety of industries - domestic appliances, fire safety, uniform/corporate clothing, FMCG; and overseas markets.

Following the birth of their son and then daughter 18 months later, Cath took a career break to raise the children. In 2014 the family moved to Pudong, Shanghai with her husband’s contract and having worked previously in the local village primary school, Cath looked first to the international schools for available roles and fortuitously the PA to Principal role at BISS Puxi had been advertised. She is looking forward to the new role in such an exciting environment.

When time permits we love exploring our local environment in Kangqiao and further afield in China and Asia. We are all having a good go at learning Mandarin, but are finding it considerably harder than the languages we already speak! We are moving to Minhang now and our children are transferring across to BISS Puxi too. We look forward to exploring the west of the Huangpu as soon as possible…

Cath also enjoys fast paced exercise; spinning, martial fitness training and when the AQ permits, outdoor running. She is ever hopeful that they will manage a family ski trip to Japan at some point or get back to PADI diving which hasn’t featured on the entertainment list since pre-children.

Cath plays French Horn in the Shanghai Community Band which she really enjoys and she is always on the lookout for new musical opportunities and very keen to support music education.
