Staff Profile: Ryan Tilley

Ryan Tilley

Mathematics Teacher

Ryan attended the University of Leeds and graduated with a First Class degree in Politics. After university, Ryan was placed at a school in Leicester through the TeachFirstscheme, completing his PGCE in Mathematics with the University of Nottingham during his first year at the school.

Ryan spent a total of three years teaching in Leicester, taking on more responsibility throughout; first becoming the numeracy coordinator and then the acting second in department. This role included developing schemes of work, attending heads of faculty meetings with other schools across Leicester, and organising trips, such as a Jaguar ’Maths Day’ which was run at a local independent girls school with the aim of promoting mathematics in a reallife context. Ryan decided to join BISS Puxi in search of new, exciting challenges both within the classroom and outside of the classroom in the dynamic city of Shanghai.

Ryan is a very keen sportsman and represented Leicestershire at football and cricket up until the age of 18. Ryan captained a local cricket team in Leicestershire for five years, guiding the team to the National Village Cup semi-final in 2012, falling one game away from the final held at Lord’s cricket ground.
