Sanjay Perera_History Teacher-Extended Essay Coordinator

History Teacher / Assistant Head of Sixth Form

My philosophy of education can best be summed up by this excerpt from a letter (quoted by Haim Ginott in Teacher and Child, 1972):
"Dear teachers,
(...) help your students become more human. Your efforts must never produce learned monsters, skilled psychopaths or educated Eichmanns. Reading, writing and arithmetic are important only if they serve to make our children more human."

BA (Hons) History, University of Kent at Canterbury

PGCE History, Institute of Education, University of London

MSc Educational Studies, Katholieke Universiteit Leuven

Sanjay joined BIS in 2012, having previously taught in London, Belgium and Dubai. He has taught across the age ranges and in various systems including GCSE, A Level, European Baccalaureate and IB. Apart from teaching History, he enjoys reading, watching cheesy action films, travelling and painting model soldiers. He recently researched and wrote a chapter on

Fidel Castro for an IB History textbook. He is still trying to write:
1. an IB textbook about medieval history
2. a plethora of science fiction and fantasy games
3. a smattering of science fiction and historical fiction novels
