Key Stage 3 Poetry Competition

The final of the poetry competition for Years 7-9 was held on the 11th of June.
  • Poetry Competition at The British International School Bratislava
  • Poetry Competition at The British International School Bratislava
  • Poetry Competition at The British International School Bratislava

All students had chosen or written English language poems on the theme of 'The Earth', and the best performers from each English class now competed before a packed audience in the school gym for the title of Poetry Reading Champion in their year group.

The overall standard was very high, and it was difficult for the judging panel of Mrs Eastwood, Ms Price and Ms Mably to single out the winners in each category. In the end, however, they were particularly impressed by the quality of original compositions on show, and self-written pieces dominated in the final reckoning. No mean feat for their writers, considering that the judges had just heard poetry by such literary giants as Shakespeare, Shelley, Blake and Goethe!

The audience was also treated to memorable renditions of poems in Slovak and German. Janko Kasper recited Pstruh by Ján Stacho and Franciska Holan gave us Goethe's Ginko Biloba.
