Forest School

Looking for the fairies in the forest-EYFS

For the last two weeks, we were at Forest School with kids of Nursery and Reception doing many projects. Firstly, we visited the forest in Dubravka where we had a space for fun and knowledge. We looked around the woods for magical fairies, observed different trees, plants, mushrooms, insects and some small animals. On the open fire, we roasted yummy marshmallows, drank very tasty herbal tea made from school garden herbs and discovered old beehives.

Evergreen cooking, making fire, roasting marshmallow in EYC

In EYC, children learn about different vegetables, herbs and nuts which are available during the autumn months, as well as how to best preserve and cook them, using imagination and magical thinking. The project also includes dining and learning good hygienic practices during cooking.

This week, the focus was explaining the role of fire safety, talking about what we need to make fire, why children never should touch matches and lighters and remembering some rules about fire prevention. Finally, roasting the Mmmm-marshmallows (we were practicing a new “m” sound in front of the fire) was the best thing ever!
