Year 4 Natural History Museum

  • Museum

This term Year 4 are carrying out a topic called Treasure and Archaeology.  Each class is learning about a different civilisation: Romans, Egyptians and Aztecs.  During the topic the children will learn lots about the lives of these civilisations, including significant inventions, famous people, buildings and myths & legends.  The children will represent their work in a variety of ways, and at the end of the topic they will present this in a class museum.

In order to help the children to understand the different ways in which museums show their artefacts, Year 4 visited the Natural History Museum in Bratislava.  During the visit, they saw a variety of exhibits and thought about what they liked about each one.  They saw that information was presented in both Slovak and English, and there were different types of exhibits: dioramas, information posters, archaeological finds, videos and hands on displays.

The children came away with lots of ideas of how to organise their museums later in the term and are excited about being able to show what they learn to other people.
