House Debate

We haven’t had a house debate since last year so it was with some trepidation that the children filed into the library to take up their positions on the floor and on the rostrum. Nobody knew how it would work out.

How well did the debates go? Superbly. The children in years 4, 5 and 6 are a true credit to the school. Each child, bar two or three, said something pertinent within the 90 minutes spent inside the library. More importantly, they all listened to each other and respected everyone’s point of view.

So, what was it all about? The first motion stated that animals should be held in captivity. It took us 40 minutes to debate this and eventually the vote went against the house with a large majority.

Next up was the motion that Pop stars and footballers should not be paid so much. Some well thought out points were again articulated from the floor. Lots of hand clapping, lots of house points, quite a few moments of laughter. And the result? Motion carried.

A big thank you to everyone involved. Until next time.

Mr. Kelly
