Week of Inspirational Maths (WIM)

WIM is a series of lessons that we start each school year with in Years 7 to 10, which is designed to get students thinking about, understanding and developing the types of attitudes and habits they will need to be successful in Mathematics lessons throughout the year. We are trying to deliver them these messages:

  • Maths
  • Maths
  • Maths
  • Maths
  • Maths
  • Maths
  • Maths
  • Maths
  • just because you are faster does not make you a better mathematician,
  • visualising mathematics is incredibly important for our understanding and further progress (even using our fingers!),
  • making mistakes and struggling with problems is what leads to learning and helps our brains grow new connections,
  • believing in our ability to improve and be successful in maths actually allows us to be (or in any subject – this is called having a Growth Mindset),
  • and, perhaps most importantly, just because your parents were not successful in maths, it absolutely does NOT mean you can’t be!

Take a look at some of the work the students were doing during WIM this year.
