OUR PRESCHOOL CURRICULUM

Collège Champittet is home to one of the leading bilingual preschools in Switzerland. Here, our young learners follow a blend of Swiss, French, and British curricula, which has been specifically designed by Champittet teachers for our children.

From higher academic achievement to increased empathy, learning another language brings numerous advantages. Young children have a great capacity for language learning, and the sooner they start, the sooner they can reap the benefits. As a long-established international school in Switzerland, we have an excellent support system in place to help children feel comfortable in a new language. 

Our preschoolers learn in both English and French, and are taught by native speakers. We nurture their physical and intellectual development through enriching activities and games on our purpose-built Pully campus – a friendly and exciting place for children to learn, grow and play.

LEARNING THROUGH PLAY

We know that children learn best when they’re happy, stimulated, and engaged, which is why our preschool curriculum is packed with exciting, hands-on experiences. These include plenty of opportunities for experiential learning, both in and beyond the classroom. Supported by our caring teachers and teaching assistants, your child will develop their motor and movement skills, use their imagination, and take control of their learning. A typical day at our international preschool in Switzerland includes storytelling, reading, simple maths, art and design, as well as socialising, discussion and reasoning. 

In small class sizes, your child will receive the attention they need to flourish. Our teachers will identify their strengths and talents, and create a supportive environment where every success is celebrated.

OUR FOREST SCHOOL

Our Forest School programme enriches our preschool curriculum, giving your child the opportunity to spend several hours each week learning in the great outdoors. Our youngest students take part in activities – from identifying plants and bugs to singing songs about their surroundings – that add a fun, real-world element to learning.

As the Institute for Outdoor Learning reports, many scientific studies have demonstrated the positive effects of regular outdoor learning, which range from improving health and wellbeing to enhancing academic performance and personal development.

Getting out in the fresh air inspires our children to exercise, explore, invent, initiate, and dream, as well as to concentrate, observe, marvel, listen, and work. Our Forest School also instils a love of new discoveries and an appreciation for the natural world.

EXTRACURRICULAR ACTIVITIES AND HOLIDAY CLUB

We support each family in finding the right balance for their child’s growth and scheduling needs. Every school day, a wide array of extracurricular activities and before- and after-school care is available from 7:30 am to 6:00 pm. Ranging from sports to music and science, our diverse extracurricular calendar nurtures the body and the mind, encouraging our youngest learners to build new skills and confidence.

When school’s out for the holidays, the fun doesn’t stop at Collège Champittet. Designed for curious young explorers, our Holiday Club combines creative workshops, music and dance with sports and outdoor activities. We also enjoy some surprise trips off campus!

We offer eight weeks of action-packed holiday camps throughout the school year – a perfect opportunity for children to enjoy new experiences while making new friends. All weeks of holiday camps are free of charge for preschool students.

Off-campus adventures
Our youngest learners love making new discoveries – and trips off-campus are always an adventure. These include visits to the farm, where children meet the animals, learn about different habitats, and enjoy hands-on activities that stimulate the senses.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • How big are your class sizes?

    We believe that small class sizes are important to ensure that every child receives the personalised attention they need to thrive. Our preschool classes have 15 or 16 children on average, and a teacher-student ratio of 1:8.

  • What is the language of instruction?

    Our preschool curriculum is taught by native speakers in French and English. We also introduce children to basic German from an early age.

  • What extracurricular activities do you offer?

    We offer a variety of extracurricular activities throughout the school year. Examples of current after-school activities for preschoolers include theatre, classical dance, football, introduction to music and sports discovery. Our exciting programme changes from semester to semester.

  • Do you offer before- and after-school care?

    Our caring team is happy to organise before- and after-school care for children from 7:30 to 18:00 every weekday.

  • Do you accept all nationalities?

    At Collège Champittet, we welcome all nationalities. We’re proud of the diversity of our school community, which currently includes students from more than 50 countries.

  • When can we apply for admission?

    Admissions are open throughout the year, and your child can start at any time during the academic year. For preschool, there is no application fee.
