Léman International School Chengdu came alive with creativity, collaboration, and innovation as students across the school participated in STEAM Day 2025 — a celebration of Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics. The event brought together hands-on learning experiences designed to spark curiosity and problem-solving skills across all year levels.
In the Primary School, students explored the wonders of engineering and design through engaging, hands-on challenges such as building balloon towers, creating geometric structures with playdough and sticks, and testing rocket car models. These playful yet purposeful activities encouraged teamwork, curiosity, and critical thinking — helping students discover the joy of learning through making.
In the Secondary School, students immersed themselves in a variety of creative and technical challenges designed to test their innovation and teamwork. The day began with the Hour of Code, where students explored coding challenges from Minecraft, Star Wars, Dance Code, Music Lab, Code Combat, and Khan Academy’s Basics of Coding. These tasks allowed students to develop computational thinking and logic in fun and engaging ways.
Next, students moved on to the Hands-on Product Design session, where they combined creativity and problem-solving to design and build projects such as paper straw rockets, parachutes, slime-making experiments, hand fans, mechanical hands, and periscopes. Each project encouraged practical application of design principles and teamwork.
The day concluded with an exciting House Challenge, where all secondary students worked together to construct Rube Goldberg Machines— intricate chain-reaction devices that demonstrated imagination, patience, and collaboration.
Students who successfully completed each challenge earned individual STEAM certificates, and those who completed all three were awarded a special STEAM badge in recognition of their outstanding effort and participation.
STEAM Day 2025 was not only a celebration of innovation but also a reminder of how creativity and curiosity can drive meaningful learning. The enthusiasm of students and teachers alike made this year’s event a true success — laying the groundwork for even more inspiring STEAM experiences in the future.
