Professional Development at NAIS Pudong

Nurturing healthy, happy, engaged, and successful students.

This week I was very proud to see our Nord Anglia International School Shanghai, Pudong Year Four to Year Six Students participate in our Global Campus Virtual 2km run.

As we have just completed our second week of the academic year, I have enjoyed spending time in classes speaking to the students and observing lots of great teaching and learning taking place.

This week we have been focusing on manners and have been reminding our students of this. We have been celebrating polite and considerate manners such as holding the door, using ‘please’ and ‘thank you’ and we have especially been encouraging polite dining manners whilst in The Hub.

I would like to take this opportunity to welcome our students and parents back to Nord Anglia International School Shanghai, Pudong.

One considerable advantage of studying the IB Diploma is that it is an excellent preparation for study at university and beyond. The ways in which students learn to be responsible for their own learning and to be independent thinkers is a key feature both of the programme and also of the approach to teaching and learning adopted by NAIS Pudong. Underpinning the programme is the Theory of Knowledge component that sits alongside the Extended Essay and the CAS element and is a core requirement for passing the course.

In today’s busy world spending time as a family can often be extremely challenging.

At this time of year, there are lots of events and student-led activities coming together, which means all members of the school community are very busy.

An architect by the name of Simon Nicholson developed the Theory of Loose Parts in the 1970’s. He believed that all children are creative and innovative and that this creativity and innovation should be nurtured in all. Loose parts are any material (natural or synthetic) that can be moved, rotated, stacked, sorted, combined, taken apart and re-assembled in endless ways.
