End of Year Message from our Head of School

The last day of our school year 2018-2019 was quite a picture.  Lots of hugs, goodbyes, and tears.

Seeing the last day departure, the Move Up ceremonies and various awards given, I saw our MET students in a really good place – reflecting on a year of learning, of friendship, and of challenges mostly met. My first year as Head of School has passed and I know how much I have learned.  I am thankful to every MET student, parent, teacher and staff member who gave their best to the work we did together this year.

As in any international school, there are too many goodbyes at year-end, and several families are moving on.  We also have a few teachers who will not be back next year, and they too have said their goodbyes to their students and colleagues.

As we conclude the year there are a few points and reminders I want to leave with you all:

  • This year we have seen improved teacher recruitment through Search Associates.  We are sad to see some teachers go, but know that we have brought in outstanding replacements.
  • MET students had amazing experiences at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) for a week of design challenges.  Next week two MET teachers will be at MIT for workshops, so they can bring back new ideas from the finest professors in the world about the use of our Maker Space and about teaching design thinking.
  • We have seen terrific integration within the Nord Anglia network this year, with the Global Campus, the Global Games, and the MIT and Juilliard collaborations.
  • Four MET performing arts teachers will be at Juilliard for their professional learning in the coming school year.
  • IB results of our Diploma program students – we expect them to be very strong.  We will receive those results in early July and will report back to you about how we did.
  • Over a dozen teachers this summer will be at IB workshops, extending their knowledge and skill sets so they can continue delivering a first-rate IB program at the MET.
  • The Green Valley campus is looking more and more impressive with each passing week.  We hope to see more parents on tours with us to the site, as we prepare for the move in August 2020.

The list of highlights is too long for this space.  I will close by giving my profound thanks to MET teachers and staff for all they give to our students. To those that are leaving, we wish them the best.  To those who stay, we know they are the “bedrock” of our school.  To the parents, we thank you for putting your faith in the MET, for helping make ours a special community, and for giving your time and effort to support the school and the learning.

To the students of the MET, I wish you a great break – some adventure, some reading, some learning, some fun.  I remind you:  You are the reason why we are here!  And the reason we will be back on August 13 to start the 2019-2020 school year.  I promise you that you can expect Passion and Excellence in All We Do!
