OUR IB PROGRAMME

At ICS Madrid, our students aged 16 to 18 study for the International Baccalaureate Diploma Programme (IBDP). The pinnacle of international education, the IBDP is the ideal springboard to top universities across the world.


All learners build their own pathway by choosing one subject from each of the following subject groups: Language and Literature; Language Acquisition; Individuals and Societies; Sciences; and Mathematics. Our students also choose a sixth subject, which can be from one of the previous groups or the Arts. Students also complete the IBDP’s core programme of Theory of Knowledge (critical thinking); Extended Essay (independent research); and Creativity, Activity, Service (personal wellbeing and community development).


This two-year, pre-university diploma pushes students to excel academically, socially and personally. Through a wide choice of subjects, research projects, and extraordinary creative, leadership and outreach opportunities, our students build the skills and knowledge to succeed at whatever they want to be or do. Our IBDP graduates go on to excel at highly competitive universities, including Oxford and Harvard.

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

  • What qualifications do your teachers have?
    We only recruit the most highly qualified and experienced teachers. All of our teachers have a degree in teaching, such as the Postgraduate Certificate in Education (PGCE) from the UK, or the equivalent from their home country. Our teachers are also passionate learners who regularly undergo training to stay informed of the latest learning approaches.
  • What curriculum do you teach?
    We are the only school in Madrid to teach the renowned International Baccalaureate programme in English to students aged 3 to 18.

    This includes the Primary Years Programme (PYP) for ages 3 to 11, the Middle Years Programme (MYP) for ages 11 to 16, and the Diploma Programme (IBDP) for ages 16 to 18. The internationally recognised IB Diploma opens doors to top universities around the world.

    All subjects are taught in English, with the exception of specialist language lessons.
  • What size are your classes?
    We have between 16 and 22 students in each class, with an average teacher-student ratio of 1 to 9, ensuring that each child can receive the personal support they need to thrive.
  • What languages do you teach?
    Our classes are taught in English, with the exception of dedicated language learning courses, such as Spanish. We offer activities for our primary students to gain exposure to foreign language learning, and in secondary school, we offer an extensive range of additional languages, including Hebrew, Arabic, German, Italian, Korean, Japanese and Portuguese.
  • My child is not a native speaker of English. Will my child be ok?
    Yes! Our dedicated English as an Additional Language (EAL) programme is designed to provide students with individualised support in speaking, reading and writing.
  • What afterschool activities do you offer?
    We offer more than 70 extracurricular clubs and activities throughout the year, including sports, creative arts, science and music. Our enrichment programme encourages students to develop their talents and discover new passions.
  • Do students wear uniforms?
    Given the diversity of our multicultural community, we don’t have a school uniform. However, our students wear a comfortable PE kit to participate in sports.
  • Do you provide a bus service?
    Yes, we offer a safe and reliable private bus service, with door-to-door pick-up and drop off available in residential areas around Madrid.
  • Can my child join at any time?
    Yes! Admissions are open throughout the year, and your child may join us at any time during the school year. Our staff are experts at helping new students adapt and integrate into our community.
