We would like to give a huge congratulations to Léman’s winners in the Junior Division at the World Scholar’s Cup Regional event and the American Mathematics Competitions.

Our students Seo Woo, Sooin and Scarlet competed and won the Junior Division at the World Scholar’s Cup Regional event in Chengdu, China. There were 24 teams and 74 competitors from across Chengdu and southwest China. Along with Su Han and Shania, the two teams both qualified for the Global Round to be held in Chengdu from August 7-11.

What is the
World Scholar’s Cup?

The World Scholar’s Cup originated in the United States, and it hosts regional events all across the world and is represented in 6 continents and over 100 countries. The organisation is known for high levels of competition in debate, quiz bowl, speech and writing. Every year the World Scholar’s Cup sets a theme for this year’s academic syllabus, guiding students to learn knowledge across six subjects through independent study and explorative research, to inspire young people’s interests in learning, improve their teamwork, communication and critical thinking skills, and cultivate a community of future scholars and leaders.

We would also like to congratulate Jia Ming for winning an award at the American Mathematics Competitions. He received the award for outstanding excellence in answering mathematics questions. There were 25 timed questions in total, and Jia Ming answered 18 correctly, which earned him a place in the top 10% in the competition. Jia Ming’s hard work ethic and dedication in studying, along with the robust, challenging Maths curriculum and yearly MAP testing at Léman, help to prepare for these types of competitions. Jia Ming also won an award earlier in the year from the Australia Mathematics Competition.

What is the
American Mathematical Competition (AMC)?

The American Mathematical Competition (AMC) was founded in 1950 by the American Mathematical Association (MAA). Currently, more than 6,000 schools around the world take part in the AMC every year. It is one of the most influential mathematical thinking challenges for teenagers in the world. By participating in the competition, students can not only improve their mathematics level but also feel the spirit of mathematics and the fun of creative thinking.

We are so proud of our winners in these competitions, all of them performed so well in representing Léman.

Congratulations on our students’ great achievements again, and we wish them good luck in the Global Round in August!
